Council appoints William Short new Town Clerk

Oakville Town Council approved the appointment of William Short as the new Town Clerk during the May 20 Planning and Development meeting. Mr. Short will assume the role effective June 4, 2025, bringing more than 15 years of diverse experience in government including more than 10 years of leadership in municipal and parliamentary Clerk’s departments to the town. Most recently, Mr. Short served as Regional Clerk – Director of Council and Administrative Services, Region of Waterloo.

As a statutory officer of the town, the appointment of the Clerk requires the approval of Council. The Town Clerk is accountable to Town Council for overseeing parliamentary proceedings and meetings as the Statutory Officer maintaining records of proceedings. The Clerk is responsible for interpretation and administration of the rules of procedure under the Procedure By-law. This role is also responsible for supporting and advancing municipal governance and transparency, while executing the statutory duties of the Town Clerk as required by the Municipal Act, 2001, the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and other relevant legislation.

Mr. Short takes over the Town Clerk role from Vicki Tytaneck who retired from the town in March.
