Sheldon Creek Erosion Mitigation

A project to rehabilitate two erosion sites along Sheldon Creek.

The Town of Oakville is working to address erosion issues along Sheldon Creek through targeted rehabilitation and stabilization of two creek bank sections. Approximately 55 metres of erosion control work is planned. 

Location 

Sheldon Creek flows from north Burlington through Oakville, eventually reaching Lake Ontario. The project focuses on two adjacent erosion sites near the stormwater management ponds southwest of Great Lakes Boulevard and Creek Path Avenue.

Project scope

Site 1 – Adjacent to Summerset Pond

  • Address erosion along east bank near the overflow spillway
  • Stabilization measures to protect spillway and prevent further channel mitigation

Site 2 – Near Creek Path Pond

  • Repairs of outfall structure from Creek Path Pond
  • Replacement of failed gabion baskets located along the creek bank

Expected project timeline

  • Design start – Summer 2025
  • Construction – Winter 2027
